Christ was not fooled by the crowds. He knew that there would soon be an emotional flip among them. He knew that their praises and palm branches would soon become curses and clubs. Christ had every opportunity to flee, but he continued to march forward. Not because he was a fool, or because he was fooled, but because he loved a world full of people that are decieved and fooled.
Matthew 21:8,9 A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, "Hosanna to the Son of David!"
Matthew 26:47 While he was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived. With him was a large crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests and the elders of the people.
