I just talked to Simon today, my maasai translator, on the phone. The valor of these guys never ceases to amaze me. They are housing a number of people in their small village from the Luo tribe who have been affected by the violence in Kenya. Many have lost relatives, parents, and chilren due to the violence.
Simon mentioned that the Kikuyu had recently tried to attack the Luo in his village but they were warned that if they harmed any of the Luo then Maasai would act in their defense...and that is a militia that tribes don't want to mess with in Kenya.
Maasai men have sat on the hilltops behind Simon's village acting as watchmen who sound the trumpet when trouble comes (EZ 33). The goverment has also warned the Kikuyu not to get the Maasai involved or they would have an even bigger mess on their hands.
Simon continues in the midst of these trials to cast vision for the Maasai Project and the plan has currently not been shaken.
